Fright Night #3

 For this week's Fright Night we watched "Toy Story of Terror" which we recorded earlier last week.  It was a little 30 minute Halloween special featuring the Toy Story characters.  The kids weren't too sure at the beginning if they were going to like it, but in the end they thought it was great!  Katie told me "That movie was alarious (hilarious)"  Since this was a short mini-movie, the kids got to watch it twice.

 Our treat for this week was orange hot cocoa with ghost peeps marshmallows.  I used white hot cocoa mix and just added a few drops of food coloring - super easy! Matt even decided to have a cup of cocoa with us (not usually his thing, but he enjoyed it)

OSU Homecoming 2013

 Last weekend we headed down to Stillwater for OSU Homecoming weekend.  We started out at the Walkaround on Friday night and let me tell you it was C-O-L-D!!!  When we got the kids out of the car it was a whopping 40 degrees...Brrrr!!!

 So we made a quick trip around to hit the highlights, got some popcorn, and then headed home to warm up.  All of the adults agreed that this was the fastest and cheapest Walkaround ever!

 Saturday was the Homecoming parade downtown.  It started at 8 am (bright and early) but the kids really LOVE to go, so we drug ourselves from our warm beds, bundled up in lots of layers, and made our way downtown.  By the time we got down there, the temp had crept up to a balmy 36 degrees, but at least we got free candy!

 We picked up my mom and went straight to the football game.  My parents have season tickets again this year (including a private parking pass - yippy!) so we were all set to go.  Once we got up to our seats and dried all of the rain/condensation off (they were soaked!) we were all ready to go.  

 The band formed our beloved Bullet during the half time show and even made him "run" by moving his legs.  It was the coolest half time show ever!  The kids had a blast.  They stood and cheered and sang along with both the fight song and the Alma Matter hymn.  Its a good feeling to know we're raising them right - as Cowboys!

 We enjoyed quite a few snacks (as usual) including hot dogs, cheese nachos, a giant pretzel, and orange cotton candy.  Kate and Ryan really love the orange cotton candy!

Fright Night #2

 We had our second Fright Night earlier in the week since we were on fall break from school and traveling to Stillwater over the weekend for The Greatest Homecoming on Earth (blog post will soon be added on that one!)  This week's movie was Hotel Transylvania and our treat was Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups.

 Kate and Ryan loved making these treats - they were SUPER easy.  We used pre-made pudding cups, crushed up Oreos for the"dirt" (crushing the Oreos is always a popular activity at our house) and candy pumpkins.  I had seen a similar dessert on Pinterest, but it was a graveyard, so I decided a pumpkin patch was a little more 3 year old appropriate.

 The finished product - looks like some of my little cooks were doing some taste testing during cooking!

Kate liked the movie, but Ryan LOVED it!  He just cackled the whole time.  Apparently, slap stick comedy is really his thing right now.  We ended up keeping the movie for a few more days so the kids could watch it on the drive to Stillwater and home.  

Another fun family fright night success!  

Fright Night

 The Disney movie nights were so much fun that Kate and Ryan have been asking us when we can have some more of them.  So I thought it would be fun to have a few little "fright nights" to get us in the spirit of Halloween.  Of course, we don't do anything too scary around here since the kids are only 3 and mama doesn't really like scary stuff too much herself.

   I put these little invitations next to their plate at dinner.

 A couple of weeks ago, Ryan had seen these little monster treats on the cover of "All You" magazine at my mom's house.  He told me that we should make those treats at our house.  So we started on these earlier in the day.  They are rice crispie teats (pre-made) dipped in almond bark and then decorated with an Oreo "eye" with a junior mint "pupil."  The polka dots are mini M&M's and the mouth is icing.  

 Since we had monster treats, our movie was Monster's Inc.  We already had a movie night with Monster's Inc before Disney, but we really like that movie, so we didn't mind!

Kate and Ryan also thought it would be fun to do a little coloring in their Monsters Inc coloring books during the movie.  They are becoming quite the little artists!

Fall porch tour

 I've been working this week to get my fall porch all together.  Decorating for fall is always so much fun (I think its all of the orange I love so much in homage to my beloved OSU!) and I am excited to have it all finished.  

I used some subway art from pinterest as my guide for my chalkboard.  Of course I can't do that many fonts by hand, so a mere 30 minutes later, my board was completed!  I am happy with the way it turned out.  The mini banner was a much quicker project and only took me about 5 minutes to make with materials I already had on hand (a real necessity when your nearest Hobby Lobby is 30 minutes away!) 

 I made the sign last year, but it got broken in storage, so Matt had to fix it for me.  The "M" pumpkin I've had for several years now, but the M had rubbed off by the end of last fall so I bought a sticker to replace it on clearance at the end of last season.  Of course, I proceeded to lose the sticker and it was no where to be found this year.  So I ended up free handing the "M" back on with black paint, trying to follow the original outline.  I bought all of the fresh pumpkins at a road side vegetable "stand" (aka trailer in the ACE parking lot) for a whopping total of $5 - take that Walmart!
