county fair

 Tonight after supper, we loaded up and drove out to the Payne County Fair.  Matt and I decided this would be a good opportunity to let the babies walk (holding hands, of course) and not take the stroller along like we usually do.  They did great!  Ryan and Kate are REALLY into animals right now, so our first stop was visiting our friends the Crosthwaits and their cows.  They were so nice to show them to us and let us pet them, which the babies talked about all the way home.

 We then walked over to the children's barn and saw baby ducks swimming in a pool, which was a huge hit (still talking about that one too!)  We also saw lots of other standard fair animals such as goats, llamas, donkeys, and rabbits.

We finished up by walking through the expo halls where two excited little ones received balloon "puppies" from some clowns that were making them.  We didn't ride any rides, as the babies are still content simply to watch others enjoy riding, so it was a pretty cheap trip.  If mommy and daddy had been able to resist the concessions, we may have made it out of there for free...but hey, you only get to enjoy a $5 corn dog once a year at the fair, right?

sooo tired...

Katie was so tired today that she found herself a pillow on Bubba's tummy.  He didn't seem to mind too much, especially since he had a ball to play with.

back to school

So summer is officially over tomorrow as I head back to school...boy is mommy gonna miss these little faces first thing in the morning!  It brings a little tear to my eye to think of all of the fun times we had this summer.  What joy it brings my heart to know they are in good hands with "mom mom."  I am so blessed to be able to work part-time right now and spend my afternoons with my precious babies!   Thank you, Lord.

We clean up alright...

 We attended a wedding of a family friend this weekend.  No pics from the actual wedding or reception (just can't seem to keep up with my camera outside of the house these days) but here we are before we left the house.  Kate is rocking her awesome 10 dollar ensemble ($5 for the dress and $5 for the shoes) and Ryan ended up going in shorts because I haven't bought him any slacks for this fall yet, and last spring's slacks no longer fit!

My mom also came with us (thank goodness for an extra set of hands!) while my dad was entertaining my aunt,uncle, and cousins visiting from out of town.  The babies could have done better (but could have been worse too, I guess).  They got a little annoyed at having to sit still (and not in a high chair) during dinner and seemed to think roaming the hotel lobby was a much better option.  We didn't quite make it til cake (bummer!) and headed home for the night, but at least we made it there!

Aunt Jess made these sweet little pj shorts for Miss Kate.  My model wasn't too cooperative to show them off, but she did tell me they were "pitty" so I know she liked them!  Thanks Aunt Jess!

Ode to electricity

Oh electricity, how I love thee!  I apologize for all of the times I took you for granted, as I walked into an air-conditioned house and flipped on the lights without even thinking.  As I was falling asleep to the beautiful noises of baby monitors and a fan blowing in my face.  After 24 hours straight without you (plus the second time you went out for another 6 hours), I promise to appreciate you for the miraculous creation that you are.  I am loving the 85 degrees outside, but the glorious 73 degrees inside is much appreciated as well!

Kansas City

 Matt's friend Thomas' wedding was this weekend in Kansas City, so Matt and I drove up on Friday night.  We left our little ones at home with the grandparents for 2 nights (one night with each set) for the first time ever.  We spent Friday night at a very nice hotel/casino, went to dinner at a local bbq joint featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, gambled a bit, and then met up with friends after they went to the rehearsal dinner.  It takes nothing less than a miracle to get our old butts out on the town at 11:30 at night, but hey, how often are you kid-less on a Friday night???  I have zero pictures of any of our friends or the wedding, but that is because we had SO much fun I completely forgot to take any!

 Saturday morning we drove over to the KC Royals stadium to take a look around.  Matt grew up going to the games with his family, so he was excited to see how the stadium had changed since the 2009 renovations. When we got to the stadium, the gift shop wasn't opening for another hour, so we decided to take a tour of the stadium.  We had a great tour guide and really had fun!

After the tour, we had lunch at Cheesecake Factory at Country Club Plaza (and sat in a booth!) and walked around down there a bit.  Went to our second hotel, changed, and headed to the wedding.  The ceremony was really beautiful and the reception was super fun.  For a bunch of 30-somethings with kids, we really cut a rug on the dance floor...and now my knee hurts!  The babies did GREAT with their grandparents and had a blast, but were happy to see us too (just enough to let us know we were missed).  What a fun weekend!
