We'll miss you, Tobes

Today was a hard day for our family. Life can change in the blink of an eye, as we were reminded this morning. Our 8 year-old cat, Toby, died this morning. He apparently had some type of heart failure that sent a blood clot to his legs. After taking him into the vet, we had to make the difficult decision to put him down. Matt was with him when he died, which was so hard for Matt, but I am grateful that Toby was not alone.

We found Toby as a stray cat in Muskogee on Matt's 21st birthday. He was our first experiment in parenting and actually really brought us closer together. He lived part time with me (and Beth and Hil) and part time with Matt (and Jon and Justin) until we were married in 2005. When we got married, his and Bella's pictures were on Matt's groom's cake. He moved with us to our new house and traveled with us to Muskogee and Edmond to visit Nana and Poppy. He was often cared for by Grammy and Papa when we were out of town as well. Toby enjoyed sleeping, eating and knocking things off the counters. He was loved by our family, especially his dad, Matt. Toby is survived by his mom and dad, siblings Bella, Kate, and Ryan, 4 grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be missed very much.

Start 'em early

This past weekend Kate and Ryan enjoyed their first Pioneer basketball game and their first Super Bowl. Friday night we loaded up the double stroller and went out to catch the last part of the girl's basketball game and the first part of the boys' game. This was also a fun opportunity for several of my colleagues to get to see them for the first time. They did pretty well with all of the noise and excitement, taking turns falling asleep and looking around. On Sunday Nana came to see us and we had our own mini Super Bowl party. We even saw part of the game between feedings, diaper changes, play time, and naps.
